With June being National Migraine and Headache Awareness Month, it’s a perfect time to bring attention to something many of us may experience multiple times a month—or even multiple times a week—and often goes untreated.

There are different types of headaches, with tension headaches being the most commonly experienced type and estimated to affect nearly 25 million Americans per year.  You may be more likely to develop headaches if you’ve had a previous neck injury or if you work on a computer for extended periods of time throughout the week.

It’s estimated that headache disorders affect roughly 50% of the adult population worldwide, with 30% of those with headaches also reporting a migraine.  Migraines are so common in fact that, according to the Migraine Research Foundation, “Migraines are the 3rd most prevalent illness in the world, with nearly 1 in 4 U.S. households including someone with a migraine.”  Women are disproportionately affected by both migraines and headaches.
